Do terms like SCUMM and Graphic Adventure make your heart go pitter-patter?  When you think history, do you think George Washington and Benjamin Franklin? Or do names like Infocom, Sierra On-Line and LucasArts come to mind more readily?  When you sleep, do you count sheep, or dancing monkeys and bouncing, world dominating tentacles?

Well, fear not, because graphic adventures are alive and well, and slowly making a comeback!  Below are just a few of my favorite selections in current adventure game development…

Another fan-made adventure game, this time based on Indiana Jones. It’s still in development, but it looks mind-blowing, so if you’re at all into adventure games, you should check it out!

Dave Gilbert and Erin Robinson (designer: Puzzlebots, artist: Blackwell Unbound) are two of the coolest cats currently in indie game development, and the games of Dave’s company WadjetEye are basically a treasure trove for adventure gamers.  The Shivah in particular is one of the boldest, most mature adventure titles I have seen. Ever.

Founded by ex-LucasArts designer Bill Tiller, Autumn Moon is definitely worth a look. Check out the Vampyre Story series, and upcoming Ghost Pirates of Voodoo Island!
